Movie Review: The Shack (SPOILERS)

J.M.J.

Last Friday, I saw a very healing movie. Some movies make me laugh, some make me cry. At the outset, I became attached to the little girl, Missy. She was so cute and lovable, the picture of innocence. Naturally, she was the character stolen away by a tragedy unspeakable.

After the shock wore off, I watched as the main character, Mack, suffered greatly from the loss of his daughter. It seemed that all he had experienced in life, ever, was loss. He lost his childhood. He lost his father. Then he lost his own daughter.

If I were Mack, I'd be pretty angry at God. Wouldn't you be? After all, He took away everyone that Mack loved, right?

This movie includes a portion in which Mack takes a leap of faith and goes after a tiny sliver of hope that something could go right.

Some have trouble with the fact that God is portrayed as a woman. However, this makes sense when you discover that Mack's father was abusive. Some can't handle the image of God the Father when their own father was unloving.

I highly recommend this film. Bring along some tissues and get ready to heal and forgive the hurts in your own life. I know you have some. I'll be praying for you!

In Christ,
Stephanie Schell
