Revive Your Hair

Image
It's springtime, so liven up your hair a little. If you've been using a moisturizing shampoo and/or conditioner, consider switching to a formula for normal hair, like  Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Total Care Shampoo and Conditioner  ($5 each,  amazon.com ). (I personally don't support amazon.) Hot tools are invaluable for keeping strands smooth. We're talking blow dryers and straighteners, of course, but a curling iron is also a good choice for the wavy-haired set. Rather than just air-drying or diffusing, use a curling iron to help define and set ringlets — and ward off frizzies. Prepare for April showers with...an umbrella, and a go-to rainy day 'do. A braided top knot is an effortless (yet chic) option: Put hair in a ponytail, braid, then twist around itself and pin. Don't worry about perfection — the more tousled and textured it looks, the better. If your strands are shorter, use a bobby pin to pin the front section behind your ear; it adds

Timely De-Stressers

Image
There's been a lot of stuff going on lately what with the Boston bombing and the Texas accident. See below for some great ways to be less stressed! Listen to your favorite songs. Find that music that touches your heart, soothes your spirit, or makes you want to sing along. Take a walk. Walk off that steam. Think about all your problems. On your way back, think about them melting away. Talk about your problems with someone like your Mom. She'll appreciate that you opened your heart to her, and you'll feel better. Exercise. This is a natural stress reliever because it releases endorphins. Start with three days a week to maintain a fitness level. Aromatherapy will help. Spritz on your favorite perfume or your best lotion. The smells will relax you or recall happier times. Have a Me Day. Do relaxing stuff just for yourself. Stay in bed late, dance around in your pajamas, and write in your journal. Source: Seventeen Magazine website

Boston Marathon Bomber

Image
" Authorities go door-to-door, tightening perimeter in the Watertown section of Boston in dragnet for second Boston Marathon bomber, identified as Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, pictured, the brother of fellow bombing suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed early Friday morning in a shootout with police." Source:  http://www.foxnews.com/ . The search is on. Too bad he's only a suspect. We all want to know who really did it. One of the suspects is dead. Do we thank God or pray for his soul, or both? Or are we sad, because we don't even know if he was involved? Violence never pays. Hopefully this will all make America stronger. It's possible that this is a terrorist action. It's possible that Korea's involved. Who knows? For now, we don't. For now, police are out searching for Tsarnaev. He looks like a young kid. His teacher said that he was a sweetheart. Well, sweethearts don't set off bombs. Sweethearts don't commit acts of terrorism and

When Boston Leaves You Reeling

Image
You may not have witnessed the explosions in Boston yesterday, but you still "saw" them in the media. It was all over the news. And for good reason. People died and were injured. People lost their loved ones. The family that lost that eight year old boy also had the mother suffer brain damage and a daughter lose a leg. Why? No one knows. What good can come out of all this evil? We don't know. We may become more united than ever as a country. The perpetrators may come to light. But in the end, lives were lost and shattered. Changed forever. An activity as innocent as a marathon, people coming together to exercise in the sunshine and those watching them were marred quick as a wink. We pray for everyone involved.

When Good Intentions Aren't Good Enough

Image
Some of you may remember that at the beginning of the year, I talked about reading one classic book per month as a new year's resolution. I actually did pretty good for awhile. In January, I read Jane Eyre. In February, I read Wuthering Heights. In March, I started  to read Vanity Fair. That's as far as it went. I started . My good intention wasn't good enough. I just wasn't motivated anymore. I was bored with the classics. I didn't really like any of the books. Jane Eyre was all right, but I didn't like it as well as the movie. Classics are often slow-moving and dry. Enter the end of my good intention. I once heard about goal-guessing as opposed to goal-setting. When I stopped reading my book, I looked at my goal as a guess rather than as a set thing. I want to know what you all think of my decision to stop reading the classics. I haven't stopped reading, believe me. I read Christian Romance Fiction, I read my books for school, and I also read magazines. Am

Day 31: Self-Portrait & Final Thoughts – 31 Day Blog Challenge

Image
So this is supposed to be my final thoughts of this blog challenge, so I guess I'll be posting this last. Anyhow, it's been fun. A lot of times, I had no idea what I was going to write, but I have a lot more to say than I know myself. Sometimes you just have to go out on a limb and try stuff, you know? Go outside of your comfort zone. I guess I've learned a lot about myself through this exercise. The innermost wishes of my heart are obviously to get married and have a big family someday, but what about now? What about today? You know, like in the song? Today can be special too. Today is part of my calling, and yours too. Don't live your life waiting for tomorrow. I spend too much time thinking about the future but before I know it now will be gone and the future will be here. I'll miss my carefree college days. I'll miss being single (maybe). But whatever I'm doing, it'll be good and right because God willed it.

What websites do you regularly check? What blogs do you look at everyday? And why?

Day 20: Yes, I Do Collect Things – 31 Day Blog Challenge

Image
When I turned 10, I had this thing where I wanted buttons for my birthday. So I got lots of buttons, and I still have them. Someone gave me a huge jar full of them, and I used to dump them out and examine them one by one. Since then, I have collected various things. Lately, I've been collecting clothing. Yeah, I buy clothes and then wear them. Does that count? I also collect nail polish. I have so many bottles. I paint them weekly, so why not? I used to make jewelry, so I have tons and tons of that. I have lots of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. You may have noticed that my collections are mainly things that I use. Which probably isn't usually true for things that people collect. But why have tons of things that you never use, that just collect dust? I have plenty of those too. I have all these books that I haven't read in like ages. Mostly because I don't often read books more than once unless I totally love them.

Day 21: My Biggest Fear – 31 Day Blog Challenge

Image
What's my biggest fear? Well, aside from spiders, I guess I'm afraid of not accomplishing what I'm meant to do with my life. I'm afraid of running out of time to do my life's work, whatever that is. I mean, I want to get married and have a family, but to do that, you have to have a husband. I don't know about you, but I've noticed that to get a husband, you have to get married. And before that, you have to do all kinds of things like find the right guy (or let him find you), become friends with him, date him, fall in love with him, become engaged, plan the wedding, and then shell over all kinds of money for the huge event. Whew! Then comes the next phase (not speaking from experience here). You settle into your new life together, try to get along, work out the problems, and then you start having children. You have to get used to your new bundles of joy, and work out the issues there too.

Day 22: My Alone Time Behavior – 31 Day Blog Challenge

Watch old movies. Sing to songs I love while working and blogging. Work uninterrupted. Write in a journal, yes, an actual journal with paper.  Take a relaxing Epsom salt bath. Look at magazines Play my Nintendo DS Most of these ideas were Tiffany's. I just happen to do those things too.
