Lyrics Dissection Monday:

Cheerleader
by Omi

(I like this Pentatonix cover better than the original.)

VERSE ONE

When I need motivation
My one solution is my queen
'Cause she stays strong
Yeah, yeah
She is always in my corner
Right there when I want her
All these other girls are tempting
But I'm empty when you're gone

And they say

THE BREAKDOWN:

He gathers support from his girlfriend.
She is a strong woman and he likes that.
She stands up for him whenever he wants her to.
Other girls are tempting...um, really? That's kind of weird to be saying that to your girlfriend. Do you think that makes her feel secure? He tries to make up for it with
"BUT" he is nothing without her. Uh, needy much??

PRE-CHORUS

Do you need me?
Do you think I'm pretty?
Do I make you feel like cheating?
I'm like no, not really 'cause

THE BREAKDOWN:

I think he already established that he "needs" her.
He obviously thinks she's pretty or he wouldn't be dating her (let's face it; I'm right.)
Whenever someone says "not really," I'm like, so, you kind of want to. If you meant no you would say no. If you mean yes but you don't want to admit it, you'll say "not really." Come on.

CHORUS

Oh, I think that I've found myself a cheerleader
She is always right there when I need her
Oh, I think that I've found myself a cheerleader
She is always right there when I need her

THE BREAKDOWN:

This is cute, and pretty much just repeating what he said in verse one.

VERSE TWO

She walks like a model
She grants my wishes
Like a genie in a bottle
Yeah, yeah
'Cause I'm the wizard of love
And I got the magic wand
All these other girls are tempting
But I'm empty when you're gone
And they say

THE BREAKDOWN:

Here he admits how much he appreciates her attractiveness.
I'm really bugged by the whole wishes like a genie concept. He views her as a machine that can give him what he wants. This sounds like objectification to me.
He's the wizard of love? Really? I'm glad he's not conceited<<SARCASM

BRIDGE

She gives me love and affection
Baby, did I mention
You're the only girl for me
No, I don't need a next one
Mama loves you too
She thinks I made the right selection
Now all that's left to do
Is just for me to pop the question

THE BREAKDOWN:

I'm glad she loves you, mister. Do you give her love and affection too?
Just you mentioning the fact that you don't need another girl is pointless, and makes me think that has entered your mind. Big red flag dude.
Great, she'll get along with the mother-in-law.
He intends to marry her.

If it was me, I'd say no.
