Movie Review: Joan of Arc

The 1948 version of Joan of Arc with Ingrid Bergman is an excellent movie, and is also pretty family-friendly. I admire Ingrid Bergman's great acting abilities. She can cry on cue, and shows great emotion at every moment she is focused on. Joan is a fourteen year old girl who is hearing voices from Heaven. She is supposed to lead God's Army against Orleans and crown the Dauphin, Charles VII, as King of France. She does succeed in conquering Orleans. When her army prepares to march against Paris, King Charles sells his country to England. Unfortunately, Joan is then arrested, sold, and subjected to horrible trials that are political, though she is accused of being a heretic and a witch. She was only doing the will of God. There were a couple of faults in this movie. For example, Joan's hair should have grown if she was really on trial for five months. It's Not Political to Stay Home

I think it's pretty crazy that the subject of staying home during a worldwide pandemic has become political. Being from Washington State, I certainly am used to a lot of regulations. Some are a bit much, while some are quite helpful. Now living in Alabama, I am seeing the other side of the political spectrum. People are protesting being told what to do, in the name of their "freedoms." I find this rather absurd. If you aren't smart enough to stay home to protect yourself and others from a potentially life-threatening illness, then maybe you need someone to make you stay home. Another narrow-minded thought I've come across is that being pro-life applies only to unborn babies. I take a more broad-minded approach to the concept; I believe that all life is precious, from the unborn to the elderly. When I watch as the governor of Alabama takes a stand prioritizing economy over the lives of countless people, it makes me shake my head. She wants to ban abortion, and ye...

Amazing Grace

This life isn't perfect, but that goes without saying. We all have our trials and tribulations, but that doesn't make it any easier to know that everyone goes through them, does it? Thank goodness we have a God Who comforts us in our hardest moments, days, weeks, and months. Even years. Each challenging experience I've gone through, I think how can I survive this? But I do, every time. With the grace of God. With the amazing grace that He offers through His Son, Jesus Christ. I'd like to think that my hardships are over. Reality tells me this isn't so. And somehow, I don't want them to be over, because without hardships I couldn't strengthen my character, become a better person, and grow in Christ. That's what this life is about, I think.
