Put a Little Spring in Your Step (by Bronwyn Hendry)

Hello spring, it’s so nice to see you! Warmer weather, longer days, blooming flowers — there are so many reasons to love this season. But above all this, the spring is a wonderful opportunity for a fresh start. After a long, cold, sometimes difficult winter we could often use a clean slate. Susan J. Bissonette once said, “An optimist is the human personification of spring.” So why not take this time to incorporate some spring practices into your life
Here are some ideas:
Say hello to spring cleaning: It’s time to go through your closet and get rid of the stuff you no longer want. Here is a general rule I have for myself; if I can’t remember the last time I wore it, it no longer zips up (see number 2), or it’s no longer the color it was when I bought it, it’s time to toss! Besides, then you’ll have an excuse to pick up a few fresh things next time you’re at the mall. Out with the old, in with the new!
Get healthy: While I do love the spring, it’s also a scary reminder that...sundresses, and daisy dukes are just around the corner. Time to clean up your act. Make a conscious commitment to fuel your body with only the best. Think lots of fruits, veggies, lean protein, and healthy grains, like steel cut oats and quinoa. Need to get your heart rate pumping? Try an activity you’ve never done before. If you love the elliptical maybe it’s time to get outside and hit the pavement. You’ll thank me later.
Spend more time outside: Warmer weather means you don’t need to hibernate anymore! Get outside, smell the roses, and take in some extra vitamin D. Need more reasons? Studies show that spending time outside is a natural anti-depressant, helping individuals have elevated moods and a higher level of satisfaction with their home, their jobs, and their overall lives. Further, spending time in nature reduces stress levels and helps boost immunity. So, basically, pull yourself away from your Netflix account and go hug a tree!
Reassess your goals and resolutions: Remember those fun little resolutions you set for yourself before the clock struck midnight way back in 2012? How are you doing with those? With a quarter of the year already behind us, spring is the perfect opportunity to reassess the goals and visions you set for 2013. In what ways are you thriving? In what ways could you seek improvements? Better late than never!
Forgive, move on: Last but not least, spring is a wonderful time to forgive and move forward. Maybe you’re still mad at a friend for something she said during an argument. Maybe your blood still boils every time you see that ex-flame. Well I’ve got news for you — grudges are so last season! Literally. It’s time to forgive, forget, and look forward to all the amazing things that are still to come. Clinging to old baggage is a waste of time and energy! Don’t let it ruin this brand new season.
Happy spring everyone! How are you embracing the new season?
