Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Today is the feast day of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and as I did Seton Home Study School for my entire high school career for home school, I feel a sort of duty to call attention to her. The picture above served as the cover of my American Literature textbook in eleventh grade, inspiring me to imitate her. I once watched a movie about her. It was depressing. She did not have an easy life. She got married and bore beautiful children, only to have a daughter pass away. She eventually became a nun. The strength of this woman was amazing. She accomplished great things in the face of extreme adversity. She never gave up, nor did she give up her faith just because the going got tough. A tough woman was Elizabeth. May we all remember her spunk and work harder. My sister shares her name, which I suggested. I wish to imitate this saint in 2013. She was a woman for our hard times.

What's my biggest fear? Well, aside from spiders, I guess I'm afraid of not accomplishing what I'm meant to do with my life. I'm afraid of running out of time to do my life's work, whatever that is. I mean, I want to get married and have a family, but to do that, you have to have a husband. I don't know about you, but I've noticed that to get a husband, you have to get married. And before that, you have to do all kinds of things like find the right guy (or let him find you), become friends with him, date him, fall in love with him, become engaged, plan the wedding, and then shell over all kinds of money for the huge event. Whew! Then comes the next phase (not speaking from experience here). You settle into your new life together, try to get along, work out the problems, and then you start having children. You have to get used to your new bundles of joy, and work out the issues there too.

Celebrities Use It, Why Should I?

Yesterday I was shopping and I was noticing that there were a great abundance of products that had celebrities' pictures on them. This is nothing new. But it struck me with new force that their only intent is to get us, the consumers, to buy what the celebrity's face is on. Why is their face on it? Their name? Do they actually use it? Do they know if it's a good product? Or is it just to get us to put it in our cart? I think that the latter is true. Why should I buy something just because a celebrity's name and face is on it? Do you realize that those pictures have been edited? Nobody actually looks that perfect, and you won't either, just because you use that particular product. Nobody is going to look like them, because no one is computer-edited and generated in real life. It's Not Political to Stay Home

I think it's pretty crazy that the subject of staying home during a worldwide pandemic has become political. Being from Washington State, I certainly am used to a lot of regulations. Some are a bit much, while some are quite helpful. Now living in Alabama, I am seeing the other side of the political spectrum. People are protesting being told what to do, in the name of their "freedoms." I find this rather absurd. If you aren't smart enough to stay home to protect yourself and others from a potentially life-threatening illness, then maybe you need someone to make you stay home. Another narrow-minded thought I've come across is that being pro-life applies only to unborn babies. I take a more broad-minded approach to the concept; I believe that all life is precious, from the unborn to the elderly.
